China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has officially released new “Power Battery Safety Regulations,” set to take effect in January 2026. The regulation introduces stricter requirements across the entire lifecycle of batteries, from design and production to usage and recycling. Key points include enhanced thermal runaway monitoring, fast-charging safety protection, anomaly warning systems, and full traceability. Analysts note that the policy will push battery makers to increase investment in material innovation, BMS (Battery Management System) development, and manufacturing upgrades. Additionally, the mandatory integration of recycling systems highlights China’s effort to establish a green circular battery industry. Experts suggest that once enforced, the regulation could reshape industry dynamics—posing compliance challenges for smaller firms while strengthening the competitive edge of leading companies with stronger R&D and regulatory capabilities.
